A Call for Unity
Moving Beyond Division
I’ve always been someone who speaks up, even when it wasn’t in my best interest.
Shortly before COVID-19, I wrote a white paper as Head of Culture for BP’s trading business, urging leadership to recognize the growing tension between people and profits. At the time, I believed people should come first. In hindsight, I now see that people and profits must be equal for meaningful, lasting change.
The same logic applies to the political and social divide we face today. Instead of choosing one side over the other, we need to recognize that both perspectives serve a purpose.
We are not enemies. We are humans navigating complex realities.
The Spectrum of Thought
I am an emotion-based person. We all are, to some extent, but like everything, there’s a spectrum. I lean heavily toward feeling. My husband, on the other hand, is at the opposite end: impartial, logical, and rational in nearly all decision-making.
Who is right? Neither. Both. It just is.
True inclusion isn’t just about race, gender, or identity. It’s also about embracing the full spectrum of human thinking. We need both micro and macro thinkers — those who lead with deep empathy and those who lead with detached reason.
